This 6-Day Rwanda Golden Monkeys & Uganda Gorillas safari is designed for travelers seeking intimate primate encounters across two remarkable countries in a short, well-paced journey.
This cross-border experience begins in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and continues into Uganda’s ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

Itineraries
Day 1
Kigali to Volcanoes NP – Into the Mist
Arrive in Kigali and drive to Volcanoes National Park. Optional cultural visits before settling in.
- Meet your guide and drive (~2.5 hours) to Musanze.
- Optional: Visit the Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village or the Dian Fossey Museum.
- Overnight in Musanze (Midrange: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge | Luxury: Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel).
Day 2
Golden Monkeys & Off to Bwindi
Track lively golden monkeys in Volcanoes NP, then cross into Uganda and head to Bwindi’s mystical forests.
- Drive (~4-5 hours) to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda.
- Cross the Cyanika or Katuna border, with en-route scenic stops.
- Overnight in Bwindi (Midrange: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge | Luxury: Mahogany Springs Lodge).
Day 3
First Gorilla Tracking – Face to Face with Giants
An unforgettable trek through Bwindi’s jungle to meet a gorilla family. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 4
Second Gorilla Tracking – Round Two!
Another exhilarating encounter with a different gorilla group. Twice the magic, twice the memories.
Day 5
Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi – Serenity Awaits
Leave the jungle behind and relax by the stunning, island-dotted Lake Bunyonyi. Canoeing, swimming, or just chilling.

Day 6
Back to Kigali – One Last Adventure
Return to Kigali, with time for a city tour before departure. Safari memories packed and ready to go!
